Children Traveling Alone-Unaccompanied Minors
Unaccompanied Minors
If your child is at least five (5) and has not yet turned twelve (12), traveling without a companion 12+ years of age, he or she is designated as an Unaccompanied Minor (UMNR). Hawkair provides a special service for Unaccompanied Minors, and a fee of $ 40 one-way applies to this service.
Please phone our Call center at 1-800- 487-1216 toll free or (250) 635- 4295 - local to make the necessary arrangements. Please advise our reservations staff at the time of booking if your child has any special medical needs or allergies, that we may need to be aware of.
Unaccompanied Minors cannot be booked the web site.
Eligible Flights
Unaccompanied Minors may travel on Hawkair non-stop or direct flights (a scheduled stop in an on-route city without deplaning).
Contact Information
For your child's security and protection, Hawkair will require the names, telephone numbers and home addresses of the guardians at both the origin and destination/arrival counter.This information is mandatory at the time of check-in at the originating city.
The party picking up the child must be the designated person listed on the UMNR form, they must provide valid government identification and sign a release form.
Identification
The child must have sufficient identification (ie:birth certificate or health care card)
The parent/guardian dropping off and picking up the child must present valid government photo identification.
Flight Procedures
A parent or guardian must escort the Unaccompanied Minor through security to the departure gate, when the Hawkair agent announces pre-boarding it is the responsibility of the drop-off parent/guardian to present the Unaccompanied Minor as directed in order to board the flight.
The child will be preboarded and be identified to the Flight Attendant as an Unaccompanied Minor. The Flight Attendant will visually observe and/or communicate with an Unaccompanied Minor periodically as other duties allow, but Unaccompanied Minors are not monitored continuously throughout the flight.
The drop-off parent/guardian must then remain in the terminal for 15 minutes after the flight departs.
When the flight arrives at its final destination, the child will be escorted off the aircraft by a Flight Attendant and released to another designated Hawkair Employee, who will take the child to the Hawkair counter and then release the child to the person designated on the Unaccompanied Minor form.
Parents and guardians picking up an Unaccompanied Minor should check in with a Hawkair agent at the desk 30 minutes prior to scheduled arrival.
Parents and guardians picking up an Unaccompanied Minor must produce valid government identification and sign the release form.
In Vancouver the child will be release on Level 2 at the Hawkair Office. (across from baggage carousal 2)
